Training

I get lots and lots of questions about firearms training.  I hope to pass on some wisdom, things I have learned that work and those that generally don’t.  Keep an open mind when it comes to training, because new ideas are always coming out and there is so much to learn!

One important thing to keep in mind when it comes to firearms training is that everyone learns differently.  Some people learn visually, some learn manually, some folks hear a description of technique and get it down right away.  So don’t get discouraged if you don’t catch on right away. Perhaps you just need another instructor to explain it differently, or demonstrate a technique in a manner that works for you.  Also, another thing that happens to folks is that they sometimes forget that even the instructors had to learn somewhere, so it took them some time to get comfortable enough with a technique in order to teach effectively.  If something isn’t working for you, an instructor should be able to come up with a solution using some trial and error to find what works for you.  If not, it does not hurt to look for another instructor.  Nothing is worse than paying for training, and not getting what you want out of it.
